|Nguyen Minh Tho Le, a member of the faculty at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi, Vietnam, is currently pursuing a PhD. at Macquarie University in Australia.
“One of the most substantial ways I have benefited from the United Board Fellows Program is my conception of my teaching career as a mission and not just work. I have begun working not only with the head but also the heart. Secondly, I have learned to make thorough plans for anything I want to do, for my institution as well as myself.
“After returning from the United Board program, I was promoted to Head of the English Language Teaching (ELT) Department. My proposal to change the curricula was approved. I then wrote new syllabi and we successfully implemented them with new textbooks deemed compatible with current ELT methodologies.
“Also, I revised the department’s administrative procedures for testing and assessment, which have helped us improve the quality and transparency of the procedures.
“I am now at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, pursuing doctoral studies. The experience with the United Board has broadened my horizon of knowledge, my outlook and, importantly, my connections and opportunities.”
