Nguyen Quang Tien, a lecturer at the University of Social Sciences & Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam, is currently a PhD. candidate in English language and literature at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines.
“Since I have participated in United Board programs, I have changed my perspectives on learning and teaching. I have learned a student-centered approach and applied it in my teaching. I also have had a chance to learn about leadership from my degree programs, from observations of the ways they organize events in Ateneo de Manila University and from the meetings with the chairperson of the department where I have done my studies, with the dean of the School of Humanities and with staff of the Office of International Programs. What I have learned from all of them definitely has a great impact on my administrative work now and later.
“After completing my program at Ateneo de Manila University, I propose to open a writing center at my home university to help students and faculty in writing research papers and publishing them in international professional journals. This will help increase their professional growth as well as their knowledge and practices of learning and teaching.
“The United Board has brought me chances to live in a cosmopolitan setting in which I have met with a variety of students, faculties and scholars of many nationalities. This helps me to know of the world cultures and what is happening in the scholarly world. I would like to get much more involved in international relations affairs to make my home institution further connected with the Asian university network and the global university network.” |
