American Schools and Hospitals Abroad

To meet the challenge of preparing students for the 21st century, Asian institutions of higher education often need to modernize their physical facilities.  A number of the United Board’s partner schools have been able to undertake substantial development projects on their campuses through a public-private partnership supported by the USAID’s Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA).  ASHA provides grant assistance to U.S. organizations on behalf of selected schools, libraries and hospitals overseas that are founded or sponsored by U.S. citizens and incorporate America’s high educational standards.

Since 1976, the United Board has received ASHA grants on behalf of six Asian universities, helping them benefit from more than $11 million in ASHA support.  Administration of these grants is provided at no additional cost to our partner institutions or the U.S. government. The United Board has a long and close history with these institutions, facilitating an effective partnership over the course of the completion of their ASHA-supported projects.  

Most recently, the United Board has received funding for the construction of a women’s dormitory and a laboratory for the pharmacy program at Payap University in Thailand and for improving library technology at Satya Wacana University in Indonesia.
